CPJ: Independent Angolan journalist’s home robbed in Cabinda
June 13, 2012: Authorities in Angola’s enclave of Cabinda must immediately launch an investigation into the robbery at the home of an independent journalist on Sunday, the Committee to Protect Journalists said today.

Bloomberg: Angola’s Ruling Party MPLA Names dos Santos for President
June 13, 2012: “If Dos Santos wins, and if Vicente is given a key role in government, it will mean that the lines between state and the national oil company Sonangol will be more blurred than before,” Marne Beukes, an analyst at IHS Global Insight in London, said in an e-mailed response to questions. “It potentially opens a door to more political interference and vested interests.”

Reuters: Angola to pay subsidies after ex-soldiers protest
June 8, 2012: Former soldiers had previously sent delegations to parliament to present their claims to lawmakers. Many have never received military pensions or disability subsidies, while others have complained about frequent delays in receiving the funds. President Jose Eduardo Dos Santos, whose MPLA won the war, has been long criticised for doing too little to fight poverty in Africa’s second-largest oil producing state after Nigeria.
